Time Boxing An Effective Time Management Technique

When you go about your day, you’d often give yourself a -to do- list for the things you want to do during your work day. It’s easy to think about your tasks and tell yourself to do each one until they’re all done. But realistically, this often isn’t the case. You might end up spending too much time on one task that you end up wasting the rest of the day not able to finish everything on your -to do- list. Here’s where a technique called time boxing can help you manage your time better.

This technique will help you see your workday in terms of hours and minutes. Instead of doing tasks and allowing yourself to spend an uncertain amount of time on the tasks, you will need to do the tasks within a set amount of time. Let’s say you need to do an article about global warming, set a minimum and maximum time for the tasks involved in writing the article. You can probably set a minimum of 30 minutes for research, then another 30 minutes for the draft, a maximum of an hour for the article itself, and 30 minutes for proofing and editing. Start doing each task and focus on each within the stretch of time that you have set. And when you reach the end of the time, you need to stop and drop the task. You’ll end up with a task that is time-pressured and you get to finish the task within the set time, with more time to spare for a break or for other tasks.

Time boxing also helps you see and predict the amount of time you will need to spend on each of your tasks. You can assess yourself and set the time for each task according to your capabilities. You need to do this before you actually start your work day. And once you are able to, you end up with a -to do- list that also includes the minutes or hours you have set up to spend on each task. You end up with your time being managed well.

And since you spend time analyzing your tasks and figuring out which one needs more time than the others, you are able to prioritize your tasks and dedicate more time on the important tasks, without disregarding the less important ones. Time boxing is a sure way to help you organize and manage your time better.

How To Get The Most Out Of Boxing Combinations

Using boxing combinations allows you to throw multiple punches at your opponent without breaking stride. Your opponent may be able to avoid individual punches, but he will find it harder to get away from several. If you keep him busy defending your punches, he will have less time to respond with his own. Of course, if you fail to properly recover after delivering a series of blows, his return strikes will catch you with your guard down. Any advantage that you gained by using a combination may then be lost. So dont forget to put up your own guard once youve completed a combination.

Combinations may be only a couple of punches put together. They may also be five or six punches in a row. The important thing for a combination is that it has to flow. Each punch must transition smoothly to the next. Otherwise, combinations are useless. Any pause or awkward delivery gives your opponent an opportunity to recover and strike back. Of course, its not necessary to hit your opponent with every punch in a combination. Some of the punches are used to adjust your opponents defense and create an opening for the next punch. You may be trying to hit your opponents face so that he will put his hands up, leaving his torso wide open for the more powerful blow that you plan to land there. Or you may aim low to bring his hands down and follow with a strike at his head.

If youre just learning how to throw punches correctly, its best not to try creating combinations. Its more important for you to be able to execute each punch effectively in the beginning. You also have to learn the numbers that are associated with individual punches. A trainer may give you direction for a combination using only numbers. If you dont know them, your sparring partner can take the opportunity to hit while youre confused. Once you are comfortable with the punches and their numbers, begin adding combinations to your training. Dont exceed more than three new combinations a week. You will have to perform drills with each combination to keep up your skill level. Once you are ready to move onto the next set of combinations, you still have to practice the ones that youve already learned. They will help you the most when you are able to deliver them flawlessly without stopping to think. Boxing combinations are a powerful technique to have in your skill collection.

Understanding Boxing Belts

Perhaps aside from professional wrestling, the sport of boxing has given us the biggest belts ever though these are not the types that we can fashionably wear everyday. Moreover boxing belts are not the ones that can be obtained so easily because they are not sold just in any malls or department stores.

For boxers, particularly the professionals will have to work and train so very hard before they can win any of the boxing belts given by the four prestigious boxing organizations of the world. In other words, they have to earn anyone of them with their sweat and blood both literally and figuratively.

In boxing, the four distinguished authorities in this sport are World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), and the International Boxing Federation. Each of these organization awards boxing belts to the champions of the different boxing weight classes. It is the foremost obsession among professional boxers; regardless of which weight class they belong to wear all the four priceless boxing belts around their waist.

In 2006, the WBO has technically awarded 18 boxing belts to different weight classes including that of the famous Oscar de la Hoya. One of the 18 belts is still in question which was awarded to Omar Nio Romero of Mexico in November. Because of the drug-test result, which showed that Romero was taking steroids prior to the actual fight, thus he was stripped off the belt. Right now, WBO belt for the light flyweight division is still to be awarded to whoever wins between the first two contending boxers.

For the WBA’s part it has given away last year a total of eleven championship boxing belts, 8 boxing belts are to be defended while 2 boxing titles are still vacant. These two boxing belts are for the super middleweight and light flyweight divisions. Interestingly WBA has it own list of boxers who are recognized as super boxing belt winners.

Topping the list among the heavyweight champs are Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield for the cruiserweight. Archie Moore and Virgil Hill topped the light heavyweight, while in the super middleweight Sugar Ray Leonard was the lone recipient. For the middleweight boxers Carlos Monzon and Thomas Hearns shared the honor while Sugar Ray Robinson was the only contender for the welterweight.

In other weight classes Antonio Cervantes and Kid Pambele tied for the junior welterweight, in the lightweight Roberto Duran was the lone awardee. Gabriel -Flash Elorde, Sandy Sadler, and Wilfredo Gomez were awarded championships for the junior lightweight, featherweight and junior featherweight respectively. The remaining holders of the super boxing belts were Kaosay Galaxy for junior bantamweight, Pascual Perez for flyweight, Yoko Gushiken for junior flyweight, and finally Leo Gamez for the lightest weight class of all the minimum weight.

Earning these belts is not really very easy. It can already be understood why boxers don’t just give these belts so easily to their challengers.
